Fortify, a Boston‑based startup, has pioneered the Fluxprint™ technology, combining magnetically‑aligned composite fibers with Digital Light Processing (DLP) to produce high‑resolution, high‑strength composite parts that were previously unattainable.
About Fortify
Founded to bridge the gap between form and function, Fortify delivers fiber‑reinforced composites with the precision of SLA/DLP photopolymers. By magnetically orienting fibers during printing, our platform controls strength, stiffness, and thermal conductivity voxel‑by‑voxel, achieving the finest resolution in additive composites today.
Digital Composite Manufacturing (DCM) Platform
DCM integrates hardware, software, and materials to tune fiber architecture for optimal performance. The core of this system is the Fluxprint™ magnetic alignment technology, enabling precise control of reinforcement orientation within the build volume.
Target Markets
Initially focused on tooling, Fortify’s parts match photopolymer resolution while withstanding up to 300 °C and offering superior strength and stiffness. Our tooling can be printed in an hour—compared to weeks for traditional molds—making us a strong contender in the injection‑molding market. We also support end‑use parts with advanced properties, such as flammability, smoke, and toxicity (FST) certifications.
Composite 3D Printing Landscape
While polymer and metal 3D printing dominate funding, composites remain underinvested despite a comparable $300 B+ market. Most composite printers rely on extrusion, leading to anisotropy and poor surface finish. Fluxprint™ addresses these gaps with isotropic, high‑resolution builds and predictable performance.
Industry Evolution & Challenges
Over the next five years, additive manufacturing will shift toward high‑throughput, repeatable production—“lights‑out” manufacturing—requiring robust digital threads and machine‑learning‑driven process control. The goal is to treat AM machines as manufacturing units with the same reliability as CNCs.
Funding and Growth
Fortify recently closed a $2.5 M round to prepare for beta testing and an additional $10 M Series A led by Accel Partners. These funds will accelerate tooling delivery and expand end‑use part capabilities.
Open Materials Collaboration
We partnered with DSM, a leading photopolymer producer, under our open‑materials model. This collaboration allows DSM to offer their advanced resins on Fortify’s platform, enhancing strength, creep resistance, and high‑temperature performance while giving customers material choice.
Future Outlook
Over the next 12 months, Fortify will scale its team, launch beta programs, and move toward general availability. We anticipate delivering full production systems by early 2022 and will seek additional capital to support late‑2021 manufacturing.
